The Heritage Christian school robotics program began in the 2006-2007 school year as a programming class.  During that first year the students learned the Java programming language and built and programmed a robot using the Lego Mindstorm NXT and leJOS system.  The following year (2007-2008) the school joined the FIRST Tech Challenge competing in the Quad Quandary game as team 54 Gr3y M@tt3r.  Over the years we added a couple additional teams but always maintained our core team 54 which is our only team for the 2024-2025 season.

Team Values

We reach out to future generations and establish a legacy by doing school-wide presentations for both the elementary and secondary students in our school. We have inspired many students to join robotics and pursue a STEM field.  Many of our current members decided to join after past teams presented to them. In a school as small as HCS, we realize it is important that we play an active part in ensuring that our team will last for years to come. We also recognize the ways past robotics teams have contributed to where we are now. But most of all, we give thanks to Jesus Christ—our support, sustenance, and hope. He has given us our talents and abilities. Without Him, we would be nowhere near where we are today.

Team Philosophy

We want to work as a team and encourage each other towards better things. We realize we are stronger by building each other up. This verse helps us to stay focused on our team:

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.”

~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (KJV)

Positive attitudes and a forward-thinking mentality are other central values that we hold. When we put our trust in God, He will surely give us strength to conquer. With this in mind, we proceed with confidence. During practice, competition, and at all other times, we try to embody this verse:

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)

Above all, we try to always bring glory to Christ. In all things we do, we want to be a light for Him. Our goal is to be great witnesses and to live just as Jesus Himself did. When we exemplify Jesus, we can show the world His love and guide others to faith in Him. This will always be our paramount goal. That makes this verse the primary philosophy of our team:

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” ~ Mathew 5:6 (NIV)

And that’s what we believe. We hope our witness will encourage others to the same.
