About Us

Technical Difficulty (team 2879) and Gr3y M@tt3r (team 54) are the two Heritage Christian School Robotics teams. The club first began as a programming class and expanded into Lego robots. The students seemed to thrive and enjoy this activity, so it became a Robotics class. Four years ago, it switched gears to an extracurricular club in order to not interfere with the music classes. The club is run by a school family (one being a teacher). Over the years, the Heritage Robotics team has won a over 20 awards. The team has done demonstrations at MSU, Bozeman High, Prospera Business Network, and our own school to teach young kids Robotics and inspire other high schools to start their own teams.

Team Values

We reach out to future generations and establish a legacy by doing school-wide presentations for both the elementary and secondary students in our school. We have inspired many students to join robotics pursue engineering, and many of our current members decided to join after past teams presented to them. In a school as small as HCS, we realize it is important that we play an active part in ensuring that our team will last for years to come. We also recognize the ways past robotics teams have contributed to where we are now. And that is how we see that Heritage Christian School Robotics is more than just the team members. There are the pioneering alumni who made robotics what it is now, our fellow students who support, cheer, and pray, and the younger learners who we will try to guide to a great future in our robotics program and elsewhere. But most of all, we give thanks to Jesus Christ—our support, sustenance, and hope. He has given us our talents and abilities. Without Him, we would be nowhere near where we are today.

Team Philosophy

We want to work as a team and encourage each other towards better things. We realize we are stronger by building each other up. This verse helps us to stay focused on our team:

“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.”

~ Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (KJV)

Positive attitudes and a forward-thinking mentality are other central values that we hold. When we put our trust in God, He will surely give us strength to conquer. With this in mind, we proceed with confidence. During practice, competition, and at all other times, we try to embody this verse:

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (ESV)

Above all, we try to always bring glory to Christ. In all things we do, we want to be a light for Him. Our goal is to be great witnesses and to live just as Jesus Himself did. When we exemplify Jesus, we can show the world His love and guide others to faith in Him. This will always be our paramount goal. That makes this verse the primary philosophy of our team:

“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” ~ Mathew 5:6 (NIV)

And that’s what we believe. We hope our witness will encourage others to the same.

The Team ~

Garrett Graham – Team Captain (As written by Levi Finch)

Garrett Graham, now participating in his third year of robotics, is currently a junior at Heritage Christian School. Though Garrett spent a large amount of his childhood chewing pencils, he strayed away from life as a human beaver and decided to follow his lifelong dream to become a marine biologist. He hopes to find the Zyxkrulls, a race of underwater aliens from unknown origins that inhabit only the deepest areas of our oceans, that he’s convinced are real for reasons he is unwilling to share.

Levi Finch – 2nd in Command (As written by Garrett Graham)

As a young child, Levi Finch was a young child. His distinguishing feature has always been his red hair, because it is red. Once Levi was no longer a young child, but a junior in high school, he decided to join robotics because it interested him. He hopes to invent the time machine so he can go back in time a write the Harry Potter books and become a billionaire.

MorgEn Cantrell – Co-2nd in Command (by decision of himself) (As written by Kristi Kollar)

Morgen is an interesting one. Born on the planet of Thrae, his perspective has always been a bit backwards…which probably explains why he joined Robotics this year. Though he claims it’s because robots are cool and this is the most advanced technical program that Heritage offers (AKA the only one). Morgen spends his free time analyzing memes. ALL of his free time. He is a freshmen and thus is deserving of his constant criticism. He has endured much. Morgen hopes to overcome these trials to eventually become some sort of artist. However he recently had an epiphany about how much chiropractors make, so he is now going to be a chiropractor-or a doctor-or a brain surgeon so he can learn to use the force. So he’ll be one of those and get a pilot’s license (cuz why not?) and start an aerial Uber. He daily prays that one day he can use the force and also wants to be an engineer. His name is also spelled with an E.

Eli Gee – 7th in Command (As written by MorgEn Cantrell)

Eli James Gee III was born at the coordinates 45.66980 N, 111.02000 W. he is a sophomore. This is indeed his first year of robotics. Eli has spent his life dodging the horificosity (copyright pending) of smoke alarms. He plans to become an aerospace engineer. Eli runs an underground top secret gang to rid the world of smoke alarms- call 867-5309 for more info. His favorite animal is nameless, for its name is forbidden and closely associated with the destruction of the world.

Travis Johnson – 1.5th  in Command (As written by Eli Gee)

Travis Johnson is in 9th grade, his first year of robotics, and his 14th year of life. He has always

liked building things. When asked what he wanted to be when he grows up, he simply said “I don’t know. He says he joined robotics “because it’s cool”.

Kristi Kollar – Secretary, Female Touch, Manager of notebook and organization (As written by Travis Johnson)

From the time she was for in Afton, Wyoming, Kristi has loved robots. Literally, like she was born in a room full of them. Then she moved to Montana and forgot completely about it and decided that what she wanted to do was theater in New York. But, not having the means to fulfill her dreams, she settled on the robotics class. Now a senior,  she has gone through two years of robotics, and has decided that she does , in fact, enjoy it, although its not really as good as theater. It turns out that people from Wyoming think weird things. She is convinced that the moon is a hoax and that earth is flat, but at least she’s good at doing robots.
